Course Description:
In this course, students will study the major themes and issues of world history; beginning with an overview of world belief systems, continuing through the 16th century and ending with present day topics. The course is designed to help students understand the world today by studying historical origins, events, and influences. Students will also have the opportunity to develop life skills such as critical thinking, historical interpretation, research and writing.
Materials Needed:
· Notebook/loose-leaf for in class notes / pen or pencil
· Folder/binder for handouts and class assignments
· Covered textbook
· Colored pencils (optional)
Class Behavior: PBIS Program and class matrix will be followed
1. Tardiness is unacceptable; preferably, students should be in their seats when the bell rings.
2. Participation is an expectation of all students. This includes regular class attendance, contribution to class discussions, questioning, note taking, and listening to others. Group work is an integral part of the course; each student will be responsible for team success.
3. Passes are given through use of agenda book. Bathroom and locker passes are limited to emergencies; please bring supplies to class. Textbooks can be housed in the classroom, but only with a cover and label. Note: this is done at your own risk; teacher is not responsible for lost books.
4. During in class independent work, student is expected to work quietly.
5. Respect your environment, your peers, and your teacher; this includes others’ opinions and ideas.
6. Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated and should be reported if seen or overheard. This includes taking pictures or video without students’ permission or posting pictures or comments on social media sites.
7. Cell phones and/or other electronic devices can only be used with approval from the teacher. Cell phones should be silenced during class time. Students may be asked to place device on top of desk. No video/audio recording is allowed without teacher permission.
8. No beverages, except water, allowed in the classroom; dry foods only.
9. Students are to remain in your seat until the bell rings; do not line up at the door.
10. All other school rules apply including PBIS dress codes.
Course Work:
Cheating, copying someone else’s work, and plagiarism will not be tolerated and will result in a major infraction according to PBIS. Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to: a piece of writing that has been copied from someone else and presented as your own; even if it is only one sentence. All written work must contain school appropriate subject matter and language.
If absent, it is the student’s responsibility to find out any missing assignments. Students have 2 days for every 1 day missed to make up work, after which it will be considered late. It is expected that all other course work will be turned in on the designated due date. Up to 50% maximum can be earned on all late work.
Students and parents have access to student progress online. Grades will be posted as soon as assessment is complete. Please be patient. Students are also expected to visit the class website for more information and links to important information including all class material and course calendar.
Students are expected to keep up with assignments and conference with the teacher as soon as possible if they are having difficulty with the course work. Students are encouraged to ask for help whenever necessary. Everyone can be successful with the right effort.
