Course Description:
Social Studies III is a year-long course that charts the historical development of the current economic, political, and social systems of the United States of America. This course is more than a collection of dates and names; it is an analysis of the forces (many of which are still operating today), which shape American society. In this class, we will examine these forces by looking at the “big picture” of history and how it relates to our lives today. We begin by analyzing the impacts of sectionalism and the Civil War through the current Modern Era and beyond! Remember – U.S. History will be what you make it!
Materials Needed:
Students will need a notebook/loose-leaf for in class notes, a pen or pencil, folder/binder for handouts and class assignments, covered textbook and colored pencils (optional).

Classroom Procedures:
- Students are expected to follow the classroom expectations matrix at all times (see reverse side).
- Targets: Be sure to check the learning targets each day when you come to class. These goals will tell you what you should learn by the end of class or unit.
- All late homework assignments should be placed in the late basket and marked as LATE or ABSENT work. (Do not hand them to me or leave them on my desk.)
Grading Procedures:
- An assignment is considered late if it is not completed upon your arrival to class. Late assignments cannot receive full credit.
- Students absent on a test day must make up the test immediately at a mutually agreed upon time outside of class. After 5 days, the test cannot be made up and will receive a “0”.
- Students with tests scores of “F” (59% or below) may complete test correction in order to receive a passing grade (D- or 60%).
- Students are expected to complete and turn in their own work. Copying another student’s work (even just a few questions) is dishonest and unacceptable. If a student turns in a copied or plagiarized assignment, all students involved will receive a “0” on the entire assignment. In order to receive any points (up to the teacher’s discretion), the entire assignment must be redone and resubmitted.
