2nd Industrial Revolution Prompts 

Directions:
The 2-1-1 system is used to develop the introduction for social studies essays.
Select one prompt and write both for and against paragraphs for each selected prompt.  Select a second prompt and write either the for or against paragraph. Use the 2-1-1 systemic approach to writing the opening paragraph. Follow the 2-1-1 for and against paragraph with bulleted facts which support your position stated in your paragraph. Usually 3 to 5 facts is adequate.

Prompts:
1. Oil, steel and railroads created America’s consumer culture. 
2. Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, Cornelius Vanderbilt, George Westinghouse and George Pullman were captains of industry.
3. Unions were beneficial to workers.
4. Federal government should support big business.  

5. The Second Industrial Revolution benefited the American people.
